Acuario Baconao

The Acuario Baconao is one of the most visited places inside Parque Baconao, the Cuban national park of 84,600 hectares that begins about twenty kilometres from Santiago de Cuba and was declared a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in 1987. The aquarium has a thirty-metre underwater tunnel, a restaurant and a dolphinarium, and is where visitors to Santiago go to swim with dolphins.

A pair of dolphins perform with hoops and balls and take small children for a ride around the pool, and a sea lion appears in the same show. The rest of the aquarium displays the marine species common to Caribbean waters. It belongs to the national enterprise for the protection of flora and fauna.
