About Ponderosa Adventure Park
Ponderosa Adventure Park lies about ten minutes outside Liberia in Guanacaste, on roughly 70 hectares of dry tropical savanna. It began as a free-roaming animal park and still keeps around 297 animals of 22 species, eleven of them African, in two fenced savannas covering some 30 hectares. The safari tour runs 60 to 90 minutes in a covered wagon with a bilingual guide, and visitors see giraffes, zebras, ostriches and oryx at close range - carrots to feed them are sold on site - before stopping at a small farm with smaller species.
The park also runs a crocodile tour, and pairs the animals with zip lines, tubing, horseback riding, a waterfall and a lazy river float, so most tickets are activity packages rather than a plain gate admission.
Visitors can park in the designated parking area near the entrance of Ponderosa Adventure Park. Parking is typically free, but it's advisable to arrive early during peak times to secure a spot. Make sure to follow any posted signs to avoid parking in restricted areas.
