CURRENTLY CLOSED. The Jardin Animalier, also called the Rainier III Zoological Gardens, was founded by Prince Rainier III in 1954 on the southern side of the Rock of Monaco, looking out over the port of Fontvieille. It sheltered some three hundred animals of about sixty species - exotic birds, turtles, caimans, a hippopotamus, reptiles, primates and lemurs - most of them donated, abandoned, recovered from customs seizures or transferred from other parks, and it had a play park for younger visitors.
The Prince's Palace states on its own page for the gardens that they are currently closed; no reopening date is published there.
Visitors can park in designated areas near the zoo, but it is advisable to check for any parking fees that may apply. It is recommended to arrive early to secure a spot, especially during peak visiting hours.
