About Apami Wildlife Rescue Center
Apami Wildlife Rescue Center sits at Portegolpe on Route 155 between Huacas and Tamarindo, in Guanacaste. It grew out of the Monkey Park Foundation, founded in 2007 by Vanessa Jarrin - the first Costa Rican woman to establish a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre in the country - at a time when confiscated and injured animals in the Tamarindo area had nowhere to go.
It rescues, rehabilitates and releases wildlife hurt by trafficking, electrocution, deforestation and road accidents, and keeps the ones that cannot go back. Visitors book ahead and choose a guided or self-guided walk of the trails, and there is a beekeeping tour of the top-bar hives and stingless bee colonies for ages 14 and up. The centre grows its own organic produce for the animals and uses no pesticides. It publishes no rate card - the visit is arranged and paid through the reservations page.
Visitors can park in the designated parking area near the entrance of the Apami Wildlife Rescue Center. Parking is free, making it convenient for guests. It is advisable to arrive early during peak visiting hours to secure a good spot.
