About Ucluelet Aquarium
The Ucluelet Aquarium on Vancouver Island is Canada's first collect-and-release aquarium. Rather than keeping a permanent collection it gathers fish and invertebrates from the surrounding waters of Clayoquot and Barkley Sound at the start of each season and returns every animal to the same spot it came from before winter. The displays therefore change through the year and the aquarium publishes no fixed species list. Visits centre on touch tanks and staff-led storytelling about local marine life.
