About Jardín del Papagayo - Zoo de Aves
Jardin del Papagayo near Penyiscola on the Castellon coast calls itself an animal sanctuary rather than a zoo, built around parrots kept as ambassadors for biodiversity and handled close up by visitors. Its collection runs to macaws - hyacinth, blue-and-yellow and red-and-green - six cockatoo species including salmon-crested and Major Mitchell's, grey parrots, eclectus and Moluccan king parrots, lorikeets and conures, alongside three hornbill species, a blue-winged kookaburra, a snowy owl, American flamingos, a toco toucan, and mammals and reptiles including capybaras, ring-tailed lemurs, an ocelot, red kangaroos, white wallabies and an Aldabra giant tortoise. The park also runs adventure circuits at several difficulty levels.
Parking information is available on the zoo's official website.
