Avesta Visentpark is one of Northern Europe's most important breeding facilities for the conservation of the European bison, also known as wisent. The park features large enclosures surrounding a farm from the early 20th century, where visitors can observe these endangered animals. Wisents are social creatures that live in herds of 10 to 30 individuals, often seen grazing or seeking shade among the trees.
The park not only provides a habitat for these majestic animals but also engages in rewilding efforts, collaborating with various organizations for the release of wisents into the wild. Visitors can expect a family-friendly environment with activities for all ages.
Visitors can park in designated areas near the entrance of Avesta Visentpark. Parking is free, making it convenient for families and groups. It is advisable to arrive early during peak visiting hours to secure a good parking spot.
- The adult day card doubles as a season card for the rest of 2026. Children and young people up to 19 enter free when an adult is with them, but pay the full 140 kronor on their own. The park is cashless for the 2026 season - card or Swish only - and is closed on Midsummer Eve. A combination card covers the park together with Verket and Avesta Art.
