About Belize Zoo
The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center (TBZTEC) is a not-for-profit organization founded by Sharon Matola in 1983. Initially started as a home for a few wild animals from a natural history documentary, it has grown into a world-renowned wildlife education center. The zoo is known for its commitment to rescuing and rehabilitating animals, many of which have been confiscated from the illegal wildlife trade.
Visitors can expect to see animals in habitats that reflect their natural environments, providing an immersive educational experience. The Belize Zoo is also the oldest wildlife rescue and rehabilitation facility in Belize.
Visitors can park in the designated parking area at the zoo, which is free of charge. It is recommended to arrive early during peak times to secure a good parking spot, as the lot can fill up quickly.
- The zoo is open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Sundays from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
