The Ferme pedagogique des Bornottes at Lacroix-Barrez in northern Aveyron has been open since April 2016 and keeps more than a hundred farm animals on two and a half hectares: goats, sheep, pigs and ponies, llamas and alpacas, horses, donkeys, cattle, rabbits and ornamental poultry. Visitors walk the grounds unaccompanied along a discovery trail with a glass beehive and an observation game, and may pet the rabbits.
Workshops run through the season - young farmer, hand-milking the goats and making cheese, wool felting, a treasure hunt, a photo rally and land art. The farm also does animal-assisted therapy for visitors with disabilities or psychological difficulties, with animals born, raised and trained on site for the work. Open early April to the end of October, closed Sundays.
Visitors can park in the designated parking area near the entrance of the farm. Parking is free, making it convenient for families and groups. It is advisable to arrive early during peak visiting times to secure a good spot.
