About El Refugio del Burrito
El Refugio del Burrito is the Spanish arm of The Donkey Sanctuary, running two sanctuaries in the country - one at Fuente de Piedra in Malaga and one in Badajoz - for donkeys and mules rescued from abandonment and mistreatment. Its work is welfare, education and campaigning rather than exhibition: it advises owners and vets, publishes research and campaigns against the donkey skin trade, and runs a rehoming programme. The sanctuary states on its own site that it is closed to the public, so it cannot currently be visited.
