About Recinto dei Cervi - Località Paneveggio
The Recinto dei Cervi lies at Paneveggio inside the Parco Naturale Paneveggio Pale di San Martino in Trentino, a short walk from the park's visitor centre and on the edge of the spruce forest known as the Foresta dei Violini, whose resonant timber was once used by violin makers. A large enclosure there holds a group of red deer that can be watched at close range, and the Sentiero Marcio nature trail runs from the visitor centre past guided and illustrated observation points.
The park runs a long-standing research programme on the biology of the red deer, and its visitor centre carries a permanent exhibition on the relationship between deer and people.
Parking information is available on the zoo's official website.
- There is no gate and no ticket: the trail is walkable all year and the park states it needs no entry ticket. It sits at around 1,500 metres, so winter visits need boots and warm clothing. Guided walks are run in the summer and winter seasons.
