About Parco dei Daini
Parco Daini is a small fallow deer centre on the SR479 at Localita Fonte Sant'Angelo near Villetta Barrea in Abruzzo, on the edge of the national park. Its purpose is teaching rather than display: a guide walks visitors through the enclosure, explains the biology of the fallow deer and lets them feed the animals by hand, with time for questions afterwards. There is also a bar and sandwich shop and a programme of guided treks in the surrounding hills, plus school packages.
Visitors can park in designated areas near the entrance of Parco dei Daini. Parking is typically free, but it's advisable to arrive early during peak times to secure a spot. Look for signs directing you to the parking area as you approach the park.
- The visit does not need to be booked - tickets are bought at the park bar on arrival. Photography is allowed as long as the guide’s instructions are followed. During the autumn rut the males guard their harem and may keep the females away from visitors, which the park announces in advance.
