About Edinburgh Zoo
Edinburgh Zoo covers 82 acres on Corstorphine Hill and is run by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, which has set itself the goal of reversing the decline of at least 50 species by 2030. It states over 2,500 animals; 71 species are listed on its own site. Among them are Asiatic lions, Sumatran tigers, cheetahs, sun and sloth bears, a greater one-horned rhinoceros, Nubian giraffes, Grevy's zebras, pygmy hippos, koalas, red pandas, Pallas's cats, chimpanzees, geladas, drills, Japanese macaques and six lemur and monkey species, plus king, gentoo and northern rockhopper penguins, Przewalski's horses, Visayan spotted deer and warty pigs, and the Socorro dove, which is extinct in the wild. Prices carry an optional ten per cent conservation donation.
