Lesny Park Niespodzianek - the Forest Park of Surprises - sits on the slopes above Ustron in the Silesian Beskids. Its centre of gravity is birds: a falconry and an owlery whose flying displays feature a bald eagle, a steppe eagle, lanner and laggar falcons, American and common kestrels, a goshawk and a buzzard, along with a black-chested buzzard-eagle that is the only one of its species in Poland.
Six owl species are kept, from the barn owl to the Eurasian eagle-owl and the snowy owl. Deer, mouflon and European bison graze large wooded enclosures, and the park also holds wild boar, a European wildcat, raccoon dogs and raccoons, with alpacas, Carpathian goats, rabbits and Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs in the domestic section. A nature education centre, a fairytale avenue, a playground and marked viewpoints run through the site.
Visitors can park in designated areas near the entrance of the park. Parking is typically free, but it's advisable to arrive early during peak times to secure a spot. Be sure to follow any posted signs to avoid parking in restricted areas.
- Admission covers the whole day and both flying displays. Birds of prey fly at 11:00, 14:00 and 16:00 in summer and at 11:00 and 14:00 in winter; the owls fly at 12:00 and 15:00 in summer and at 12:00 in winter. The educational trail, viewpoints, fairytale avenue, nature education centre, playground, toilets and parking are all included, as is non-commercial photography - having your own photo taken with a bird of prey or an owl costs extra. Weekend and holiday tickets cost 10 zloty more than weekday ones. Children under 3, visitors over 75, wheelchair users, blind visitors and any school child on their birthday enter free. Dogs and other pets are not allowed anywhere in the park, and the park does not accept the Polish tourist voucher.
