The Belvedere des Vautours sits above the Gorges de la Jonte at Saint-Pierre-des-Tripiers in Lozere, on the edge of the Causse Mejean, and looks straight out at the cliffs where griffon vultures were reintroduced from 1981 after the species had been wiped out in the Grands Causses. It is a museum-and-observation site rather than a collection: the birds are wild and free, watched from the terrace and through fixed optics, and the exhibition covers how vultures feed, breed and live in colonies, their relationship with people, the food chain, and the reintroduction programme itself. Parking is available just 50 meters from the entrance, making it easily accessible for visitors. It is important to note that the parking is free, so you won't need to worry about any fees when you arrive.
