miniZOO Vendryne in Czech Silesia is a rescue collection rather than a conventional zoo. Almost every animal arrived because someone could no longer keep it or had kept it badly: a camel taken in unable to walk after years of neglect, a pair of boa constrictors so used to each other after a lifetime together that they cannot be separated, a fox rescued from a fur farm abroad, meerkats given as an unwanted present, a grey parrot passed through several owners, and a continuous stream of dwarf rabbits and guinea pigs surrendered as pets.
It keeps lemurs, coatis and skunks as well, runs keeper-for-a-day and feeding sessions, and takes animals to visit care homes.
Visitors can park in the designated parking area near the entrance of miniZOO Vendryn?. Parking is free, making it convenient for families and groups. It is advisable to arrive early during peak times to secure a good parking spot.
- This is a rescue centre and some of the animals - the older boas and the grey parrot among them - are not part of the permanent display. Its feeding sessions with the lemurs, coatis, meerkats and skunks are booked separately from admission.
