About Yorkshire Wildlife Park
Yorkshire Wildlife Park at Branton near Doncaster opened in 2009 on former farmland and has grown into one of the largest walkthrough parks in Britain, built around big reserves rather than small enclosures. It is best known for Project Polar, the largest polar bear reserve outside the Arctic, and for taking in rescued animals - its first residents were thirteen lions rescued from a Romanian zoo.
The collection runs to Amur tigers and leopards, black rhinos, okapi, giant otters, spotted hyenas, Guinea baboons, geladas, painted dogs and a large South American primate section with roloway monkeys, golden lion and cotton-top tamarins and silvery marmosets. It holds two giraffe subspecies, reticulated and Rothschild's.
