Beauval Zoo's African elephant herd, established in 2003, resides in the largest elephant plains in France, spanning several hectares. The group comprises six females—Marge, N’Dala, M’kali, Juba, Tana, and Ashanti—and a young male named Akili.
In early 2026, the herd celebrated the births of two female calves. Himba was born on February 15 to 37-year-old N’Dala, and Rosie arrived on March 22, born to 23-year-old Ashanti. Both calves are thriving and can be observed alongside the herd in their expansive enclosure.
Beauval Zoo actively participates in elephant conservation through its association, Beauval Nature. Notably, the zoo established the world's first elephant sperm bank, aiding in the genetic management and preservation of the species.
