London Zoo, also known as ZSL London Zoo or London Zoological Gardens, is the world's oldest scientific zoo, located at the northern edge of Regent's Park in London, England. It was opened on 27 April 1828 and was initially intended as a collection for scientific study, only opening to the public in 1847. The zoo is managed by the Zoological Society of London, which was established in 1826, and has played a pioneering role in the history of zoological gardens, being the first to open a reptile house, public aquarium, insect house, and children's zoo.
